Xiaomi SU7 Delivery Delays: What You Need to Know in 2024

Xiaomi launched orders for its SU7 electric sedan on Thursday and reported that pre-orders reached 88,898 within 24 hours. The company is cautioning potential buyers of potential delays ranging from four to seven months, indicating a strong demand for its inaugural vehicle.

The manufacturer, known for its smartphones and various consumer electronics, initiated order placements on Thursday with the pre-order count hitting 88,898 within the first day.

Deliveries for the standard SU7 model, priced at CNY 215,900 ($29,870 or approximately Rs. 24,89,900), may require 18-21 weeks according to Reuters' investigation on Xiaomi's car app. Deliveries for the SU7 Pro model may also take 18-21 weeks, while the priciest model, valued at CNY 299,900 (around Rs. 34,58,709), necessitate 27-30 weeks for delivery.

The SU7, with a design reminiscent of Porsche's Taycan and Panamera sports car models, has been introduced in a hyper-competitive pricing environment within the world's largest auto market, where over 40 brands compete for consumer attention.

Other players in the market, such as Huawei-backed Aito and Xpeng, are offering discounts and subsidies on their respective electric vehicles for a limited time. Chery has announced tax breaks, trade-in subsidies, and cash discounts on select gasoline-engine vehicles.

Despite the challenging market for new entrants, analysts highlight that Xiaomi possesses more substantial financial resources compared to many EV startups, and its proficiency in smartphones gives it an advantage in smart dashboard technology - a feature highly valued by Chinese consumers. As part of the sales launch, Xiaomi also unveiled two special versions of the car named "Founder's Edition," which sold out immediately with the first 5,000 units. A subsequent round of Founder's Edition sales has commenced, although the quantity available remains unspecified.
